BRAKE announces Road Safety Campaign “Too Young to Die”
This week, Road safety charity Brake has announced that the “Too Young to Die” campaign, set to be held later this year, will be the hard hitting theme of Road Safety week 2011.
It takes place in November each year and aims to give everyone an opportunity to promote road safety in their community, school or company.
A specialist in road traffic accident claims from PHC Law said the campaign would hopefully have a huge impact and drive home the message that too many lives are being lost due to fatal road accidents.
The “Too Young to Die” theme for this year’s road traffic safety campaign will highlight the amount of road traffic accidents that are more likely to kill younger motorists than any other cause of death.
Research and casualty date from across the UK highlights that young motorists, particularly young male drivers are at a much higher risk of being involved in a car accident than a more experienced, older driver.
Young male drivers also have higher crash rates compared to young women due to higher risk taking. Male drivers between the ages of 17-20 are 7 times more at risk compared to older drivers and the chances of them being involved in a severe car accident is 17 times higher between the hours of 2am and 8am.
A road traffic accident specialist from PHC Law said it is imperative to ensure that the next generation of young motorists is aware of the frightening facts and causes of road traffic accidents.
“In the UK it is frightening how many young motorists are involved in a severe or fatal accident. Such accidents result in children being, left without their parents, parents tragically losing their children, friends losing friends, people losing their brothers, sisters etc. Most of these accidents are a direct result that easily be prevented. Driving whilst tired; driving under the influence of drink or drugs, poor vehicle maintenance, using a mobile phone or through just being careless and not looking out for others can cost lives”.
Road Safety Week 2011 is to be held in November to increase the awareness of road traffic accidents that are more likely to kill young people than any other cause of death.
“Through actively campaigning for improved road safety amongst all motorists, particularly the younger generation, we hope to see a decline in the number of severe and fatal accidents amongst motortists”.
